The ground rules.
Last updated October 9, 2026
Draft: these terms are being reviewed and may change before launch.
These terms are an agreement between you and Openly Learning LLC (“Openly Learning,” “we,” “us”) for using openlylearning.live and app.openlylearning.live (the “Service”). By creating an account or booking a class, you agree to them.
1. Who can use Openly Learning
You must be 18 or older to create an account. Parents and legal guardians may add students under 18 to their account and are responsible for their students' use of the Service. Adult learners book for themselves.
2. Your account
Keep your sign-in details private and your information accurate. Your account type (parent, adult learner, or educator) is chosen at sign-up and can't be changed later. You're responsible for activity on your account.
3. Our role
Openly Learning is a marketplace that connects families and adult learners with independent educators. Educators are not our employees; they create their own classes, set their own prices and schedules, and are responsible for their teaching. We review and approve every educator before they can list classes.
4. Booking and payment
- Prices are set by each educator and shown before you book. You pay in full when you book, through Stripe.
- Openly Learning keeps 18% of each booking as a platform fee; the educator receives 82%.
- After booking, the class's Google Meet link appears on your dashboard. Only people who booked the class can see it.
5. Refunds
- Class bookings are final, except as described here.
- If an educator cancels or misses a session, you're refunded for that session.
- If we remove an educator because of an incident (for example, any kind of abuse or credentials found to be false), learners in that educator's classes are refunded.
- Educator background check fees are not refundable.
6. Educators
- To teach, you apply with accurate information and a resume or CV, and pay a one-time $35 background check fee. We may approve or decline any application.
- You receive 82% of each booking, paid to your bank through Stripe. You're responsible for your own taxes.
- Class descriptions, schedules (including time zone), prices, and seat limits must be accurate, and you must teach the sessions you list.
- You don't need to be a Christian to teach, but every class must respect our Christian values. Only Christian educators may teach Bible and worldview classes.
- We may remove an educator, and their classes, for any kind of abuse, false credentials, teaching that goes against our Christian values, or other violations of these terms.
7. Safety and conduct
Everyone must treat others with respect. Harassment, abuse, hateful or sexual content, and sharing someone else's personal information are not allowed. Please report concerns to us right away at learn@openlylearning.live.
8. Content
Educators keep ownership of their course materials. By listing a class, educators allow us to display its title, description, and their public profile to promote the class. Our name, logo, and website design belong to Openly Learning.
9. Disclaimers and limits
We work hard to vet educators and keep the Service running, but we can't guarantee any particular learning outcome or that the Service will always be available. To the extent the law allows, Openly Learning's total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.
10. Ending your account
You can stop using the Service at any time. We may suspend or close accounts that violate these terms.
11. Changes and governing law
We may update these terms; we'll post changes here and update the date above. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Michigan.
