Your privacy, plainly.

Draft: this policy is being reviewed and may change before launch.
Openly Learning LLC (“Openly Learning,” “we,” “us”) runs openlylearning.live and app.openlylearning.live, where families and adult learners book small, live online classes from independent educators. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have.
What we collect
- Account details: your name, email address, account type (parent, adult learner, or educator), confirmation that you are 18 or older, and an optional phone number. Passwords are handled by our sign-in provider (Google Firebase); we never see them.
- Student details (parents only): each student's first name, grade, and interests, added by the parent or guardian. Children do not create accounts.
- Educator applications: the profile you submit (name shown to families, subjects, grade levels, experience, credentials, website, state of residence), your resume or CV and any other document you upload, and your background check status.
- Bookings and payments: which classes were booked, for which student (first name), the amount paid, and the payment status. Card details are entered on Stripe's secure checkout; we never see or store card numbers.
- Educator payouts: Stripe collects the identity and bank details needed to pay educators. We receive only whether payouts are set up, not your bank details.
- Background checks: when Checkr runs your check, Checkr collects your Social Security number, date of birth, and consent directly. We receive the status and result of the check.
- Session feedback: which sessions you joined, and your answers to three questions about the educator after each session (whether they seemed knowledgeable, whether they acted professionally and appropriately, and whether you'd take another class from them, with any explanation you give).
- Email updates: if you sign up for class announcements, your email address and whether you're a parent, adult learner, or educator.
How we use it
- To run your account, show and book classes, process payments, and pay educators.
- To review educator applications and keep learners safe.
- To send messages about your account and bookings, and class announcements if you asked for them. This includes alerts to educators when someone books their class and a reminder to families the day before each class session. They appear in your account and, if you choose, as phone or computer alerts and by email; you can turn email and device alerts off anytime in Account details.
- To prevent fraud and abuse and to meet legal obligations.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.
Who can see what
- Educators see, for their own classes: the student's first name, and the booking parent's or learner's name and email so they can reach you about the class. Families who book see the Google Meet link the educator adds to that class.
- Families and learners see an educator's public profile and class details.
- Our team sees educator applications, uploaded documents, and background check status to review them, and learners' session feedback. Educators never see session feedback.
- Service providers process data for us: Google Firebase (accounts and data storage), Vercel (website hosting), Stripe (payments and payouts), Checkr (background checks), and Resend (notification emails). Phone and computer alerts are delivered through your device's own push service (Apple, Google, Microsoft, or Mozilla). Classes take place on Google Meet, which is run by Google under its own privacy policy.
Children's privacy
Accounts are for adults 18 and older. Parents and guardians add their students; we collect only a student's first name, grade, and interests, and we use them only to provide classes. A parent can review, change, or delete their student's information at any time from their account, or by emailing us.
Cookies and tracking
We use only what's needed to keep you signed in and the site working. We don't use advertising trackers. Our pages load fonts from Google Fonts and some photos from Unsplash, which may receive your IP address when your browser requests them.
How long we keep it
We keep account and booking records while your account is open and as needed for payments, taxes, safety, and legal requirements. You can delete your account at any time from Account details in your account (once any class you're booked in or teaching has finished). Your account is closed right away and erased 14 days later; signing back in before then cancels the deletion. We then erase your personal information, and keep payment, booking, and feedback records only without your name, as needed for taxes, disputes, and safety.
Your choices
- Update your profile and students from your account.
- Unsubscribe from class announcements using the link in any email, or by contacting us.
- Ask us for a copy of your information, or to correct or delete it.
Security
We use access rules so each account sees only its own information, encrypted connections, and trusted providers for payments and background checks. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong, unique password.
Changes
If we make important changes, we'll update this page and the date above, and let account holders know.
